Two yacht-building companies join forces on 44ft sailing yacht
SIBRANDABUORREN – An engineering company and an interior joinery business have joined forces to complete a 13.4m (44ft) aluminium sailing yacht. The yacht is a design from the boards of Berckemeijer Yacht Design of Stein, Germany, that is being built on behalf of a private individual.
“We gave the locations of technical parts at an early stage so their foundations could be made in the vessel,” says Mark Bijstra, owner of the Dutch marine engineering company that bears his name.
“The hull was then transferred to Pronk Marine Joinery for finishing. We set up our shop in a corner, so we could work on the project together in one building,” he added.
“That kept the lines of communication short and we were able to come up with solutions fast and implement them immediately. That proved to be a practical way of working, because quite a few modifications popped up in this custom-built project.”
Bijstra has provided customized solutions for all marine technical installation work since 1998. His specialities range from maintenance and renovation to navigation and communication equipment.
The owners of the BM44 plan to spend extended periods at sea. They must have their water supply on board and power storage and generation using portable solar panels. And furnishing the ship requires much customization.”
Bijstra Shipyard Engineering began the construction phase with technical pre-installations, such as laying cables and pipes and the like.
Pronk started installing floors and main bulkheads and applied foam insulation. Completing the yacht will take about a year. After that, the BM44 will be launched in March and rigged. Then, there are sea trials and the handover. Lees verder >>
The two companies say they will continue their cooperation and already have found a project. Once the BM44 has left, they will start on their next joint project: a sailing yacht from iYacht, an Explorer 54 DS. Lees verder >>
